Lolita Fashion

Lolita fashion started around 1980 and it’s steadily growing in popularity even in the Western world. It’s a plethora of styles inspired by the Rococo and Victorian periods. The world “decora” is a shortened version of “decoration” and this should already tell you a lot about the style. It is mainly worn by teenagers and young women and it aims to create a playful, childlike and cute attitude.
It doesn’t have to be mistaken with the more general term of Fruit-fashion. Decora is more about pastel and bright colours, toys that become accessories and incorporating elements from ones childhood. Some popular decora items and accessories are plastic jewelry, bright coloured hair, Hello Kitty and many other kawaii characters, cartoon graphic t-shirts, layers.

Nancy Spungen Style Inspiration

Nancy Spungen was a famous punk icon and groupie. She is best known as the girlfriend of the Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious. Nancy was born in 1958 and she was a troubled girl from early childhood. She was even diagnosed with schizophrenia at age 15. Her mother, Deborah Spungen, talks about Nancy’s life in the biography of her daughter “And I don’t want to live this life,” published in 1983. Nancy died tragically in 1978. Everyone thinks it was Sid Vicious who murdered her, but we will never really know what happened that night in the infamous Chelsea Hotel. Some say she was stabbed by him and some say she was murdered by a drug dealer she caught stealing in their room.Nancy’s rebellious attitude brought her to the American punk scene, but that wasn’t enough for her. She eventually left for England following The Heartbreakers, but she met the Sex Pistols as soon as she arrived in the UK. She started a violent relationship with Sid that ended in her tragic death.
Nancy Spungen is the true tragic rock icon. Her life was crazy for the most part, mainly because she suffered from schizoprenia but at that time there weren’t treatment centers for children and teenagers with this diagnosis. Apparently her doctor never told Nancy’s family, so she kept on living her troublesome life.
Spungen had a genius IQ but she never could put it to use because she couldn’t focus. She got bored very easily and she spent her school years hanging with the “wrong” kids and doing drugs. She even tried to commit suicide at age 10 and threatened her babysitter with a pair of scissors. At age 17 she ran off to New York and made a living as a dancer and a prostitute. After a while she moved to London because everyone in New York was sick of her ups and downs and called her “Nauseating Nancy.”

We don’t know if Nancy’s issues were effectively due to her disease or if she was just naturally a punk and a rebel at heart. There’s only one thing we know for sure: that chick had style. She was a pioneer of the “bad rocker girl” and “punk groupie” look, and she surely influenced rebel girls from the 1980s until today. She wasn’t a natural beauty either, but she had a ton of style and charm. Let’s see some of Nancy’s wardrobe staples and key elements together.Studded Bra T-shirt – Black Skinny Pants – Heeled Boots Black. Nancy wore all black clothes. She was sporadically seen wearing leopard patterns, white and some other random colours but the main colour was always a solid black. Rebel Girl: Audrey Rose

Audrey Rose is an up and coming alternative model from Long Island, New York. Her favourite genre of modelling is horror but she also rocks beauty and fashion in front of the camera. Along with being a published model she is a freelance make up and FX artist and is a tattoo lover rocking the body modification world as a body piercer. Keep reading to get to know more from Audrey Rose.

How did you get into modelling? Did you always want to model?I have always wanted to be a model. Always wanted to do runway. However I am only 5ft tall and that was slim to none. About 4 years ago my fiance was into photography and we started taking shots. I sent them into some magazine and my first feature was on Rebel Ink Magazines web page . Ever since then I have gotten great recognition.Do you have any advice for models just starting out? Just don’t give up keep doing what you love. Always stay positive.What’s your favourite genre of modelling? I am a huge Horror Freak. So anything creepy, bloody, scary vampy is def my favourite genre of modelling.Is there a modelling genre or scenario that you love to see but would never partake in yourself?I do love implied nude photos. However they are beautiful shots for some just something I don't like to partake in. I like to try and create amazing shots with makeup, art work and fashion.What was your first tattoo? Could you tell us a little bit about your first tattoo experience? My first tattoo was on my wrist for my grandfather. It says Grampy. As soon as I was 18 I walked right in and got my first tattoo. Ever since then they have been quit addicting.You’re also a makeup & FX artist. What has been your favourite makeup or FX job you’ve done so far?Yes I do FX make up. I’ve had several amazing jobs. My favourite was my first major film. With Armand Assante & Robert Funaro. I had to make two decapitated heads. It was a lot of fun and an amazing experience to be a part of that movie and being on an amazing set like that.You’re a body piercer at Tattoo Lous in Saint James , NY. Do you have a piercing pet peeve? What is your favourite piercing? Yes I am a body piercer. I LOVE PIERCING. The only piercing pet peeve I would say I would have would be when people don’t sit still and pull away right when I am about to pierce. My favourite piercings would be doing Microdermals and I love doing piercings with symmetry (like more than one lip piercing or more than one ear piercing).Before we go, what’s next for Audrey Rose? There is a lot coming up for 2015. Some work with Ladies of Metal. My beautiful friend Kitty Krystal and I have amazing work coming out this year as well. Riona Noire is a Belgium based freelance model, designer and make up lover. She shoots everything from beauty, lingerie and fashion all the way to latex fashion and art nude and in each of these fields she aims for perfection. Get to know Riona better in our interview below!

I did and apparently people liked my look, because I have been modeling ever since. I started as an alternative and gothic model and went on to fashion and beauty, artistic nude and two years ago I started modeling latex.What was your first shoot like?My first shoot was a really good experience. The photographer gave me some modeling tips and we got started. I remember we shot on a really nice location, but it was quite cold. I did my own make up and styling. He was a really nice man and photos turned out quite good for a model being so inexperienced.What’s your favourite genre of modelling?That’s a hard question, because I model a lot of different genres and each genre has its specific aspects that I love. I guess I love the variation between different genres most. Today it can be beauty, tomorrow I will love modeling latex and who knows, next week I will probably love art nude modeling more.You’re also a makeup lover. Tell us, if you had to live the rest of your life using only one cosmetic product, what would you choose?It would be a hard choice between black eye pencil and skin cream. There is so much you can do with a black eye pencil to make your eyes pop, but skin care is also really important to me.Do you have any modelling concepts that you’ve been wanting to bring to a photographer?Underwater shooting. Definitely underwater shooting.Unfortunately it’s not easy to find a photographer with the right equipment and a pool. I’m dying to do an underwater shoot with a mermaid tail! That would probably be my dream shoot. Any photographer who’s up for it reading this? :DYou do a lot of latex shoots. Do you have any tips for those who would love to try it out for the first time?Be careful while putting on latex that you don’t rip the fabric, never use your nails. When you are wearing latex for the first time, move around in it and feel how it adjusts to your body and don’t be ashamed to practice a few poses in the mirror to see how it looks when you move, how the garment reacts to your body. That’s about it, I’m sure everyone can look fabulous in latex! Just keep in mind that latex will not keep you warm or protect you from heat.What’s the best thing, and the worst thing about wearing latex?The worst thing is putting latex on and taking it off again. When you put it on, it’s cold and hasn’t adjusted to your body temperature yet. It needs a few minutes, but after that it feels really nice, like a second skin. Along with wearing the latex, comes a certain self-confidence because you feel really sexy in it, that’s probably the best thing about wearing latex. When you have to take it off, it sticks to your skin and feels a bit icky. Makes you even more sad that you have to take it off.Has there been a time in your career when you’ve been astounded with what you’ve achieved? Tell us a bit about it!Every time I get photos back from a shoot and I look at them, I’m astounded with how I look, like I don’t recognize myself. Make up artists perform miracles! Sometimes I feel like two completely different persons: the daily life me and the model. It’s the same with posing, don’t ask me how I managed to do that pose, because I will not remember. While modeling, my body just takes over and does these weird things that turn out to look good on photo. Sometimes daily life me is jealous of model me, haha.Before we go, do you have any tips for new models that find you inspiring?Besides practice in the mirror, I’ll give them the same advise I would give to a younger version of me: don’t overthink yourself. Just go with it. I used to be very uncertain about myself and when I look back, there was no need for that.
