Sex. What's worse than being all-set for sex, only for your period to put a stop to your plans? The FLEX Company is offering a product that will change the way couples have sex while a woman is on her period, by temporarily stopping the flow of blood and making things less messy.

The product. According to the Flex website, “Unlike other feminine hygiene products, FLEX conforms to any woman’s body making it the most comfortable product on the market. It’s safe, easy to use, BPA-free, and hypoallergenic, and is not associated with TSS." So how will it perform?

Discs. The small discs can be worn for up to 12 hours and will be sold starting in September, but people can currently get a free sample from the website. "We’ve built a product that allows couples to increase their opportunity to have sex by 23 percent. The great tragedy of people avoiding sex on their period is that this is really the time when women want it most,” says Lauren Schulte, CEO of the company.

Blood flow. According to TechCrunch, 20,000 people have already signed up to try the product when it comes out. The product works by blocking off the woman’s cervix, stopping the blood flow temporarily.

Purpose. The purpose of this invention, aside from the fact that women can have mess-free sex while on their periods, is so that women can feel more comfortable during their periods. No need to clean sheets, or play Scrabble with your boo instead. The cup has your back.

Mission. According to the website’s mission statement, "We want to help couples become more intimate by providing products that make them feel empowered. We want to spark positive conversations between men and women about the female body."

Prevention. FLEX is not meant to be used as a form of birth control however, and it also does not prevent against sexually transmitted diseases. It seems as if a few people have tried FLEX already, as there are a few testimonies written on the FLEX websites.

Testimonies. "I hate feeling self-conscious about having sex when I'm on my period. It always comes at the most inconvenient time: romantic getaways, birthdays, date nights. With FLEX, I can still be swept up by the mood of these occasions. And I've never had spotting or leaking,” says 30-year-old Emma.

Comfort. Another testimony on the website reads, "Neither my partner or I could feel FLEX, and there was no mess at all. She feels more comfortable, I'm happy about having more sex, and I feel like it helped strengthen our relationship,” according to 27-year-old Garret.

Softcup. While they aren’t designed exactly the same way, the Softcup is another period blocking device that can also be worn for up to 12 hours, and during sex. Unlike tampons and pads, the Softcup doesn’t absorb the blood; rather it collects the blood into the cup.

Sex. Reddit users have posted their own testimonies of using the Softcup during sex. "I've used it several times during sex, and it worked well for me. Minimal leakage and overall seemed to do pretty well. I didn't use it much as my regular device (used a DivaCup for that and really liked it). My SO could generally feel it, but preferred sex with it in to no sex at all (he's not big on period sex and I can understand not wanting to deal with the mess),” says one user.

Recommendation. "I LOVE this product! I find it really comfortable during sex, and my boyfriend says he can barely feel it. I definitely recommend it!,” says reddit user loveisahigherlaw. Devices like FLEX may be the way of the future. Get ready for more lovin'.
