How did you get started?I don’t recall ever actually dreaming about becoming a model, although I inspired by some alternative models and their work. But being shy and insecure back then, I didn’t really think I could possibly become one myself. When I was about 18, this one owner of an alternative fashion store came up to me (while I was shopping there) and asked to do a shoot for their web catalogue. The shoot got me thinking that maybe me being an alternative model wasn’t such a crazy idea after all. To give it a try I signed up on a modeling network page and started making contacts and booking shoots there.I’ve been on that road ever since, except for taking about a yearlong break due to a severe lack of inspiration. Luckily I found my spark again on 2013, and was reborn as a new alter ego called Eisheth Antagony.Do you love any one genre of modelling more than another?I’m always willing to do something I haven’t done before, but by far my favorite genre is dark editorial and fantasy. I love creating non-conventional looks and giving life to new intriguing characters. What was your first shoot as a model like?It was awesome and terrifying at the same time. Two other models were booked on the same shoot and I first sat there watching their performance and got more nervous each minute. They both seemed way more experienced and professional than me, although they seemed at least as young. I was probably trembling with fear by the time it was my turn to go and pose. Surprisingly enough, the results turned out fine, although I was probably really awkward and had no idea what I was doing. Luckily the photographer had a history of modeling herself, so she was rather good at giving instructions.[caption id="attachment_102062" align="aligncenter" width="700"]
Photography by Lauri Keinänen Photography[/caption]Tell us a bit about your style?I like to look different for each shoot and play with my looks. Looking pretty isn’t necessary for delivering a good shot - looking interesting is. While modeling, I love to wear all kinds of crazy and strange clothing and accessory, I wouldn’t normally wear in my everyday life. My everyday style is not as over the top. It’s more comfy, yet still edgy. My style depends on the day’s current mood really, so I don’t like labeling myself. If you could go back to your early modelling days, what would you do differently? Each shoot has been a lesson and even the ones, I didn’t feel so happy about afterwards, taught me something. Maybe I’d just tell the younger version of me to be more confident and to do her thing, without worrying what others may think. What do you consider your biggest career highlight to date?I don’t like to single out one thing… All and all it has been a pleasure to work with all these talented people. (This sounds like something a person participating in a beauty pageant would answer, but whatever.)How much have you changed since you first started modelling?A lot. It took some time for me to really find my own thing. My self-esteem has improved; I’m more confident and care less what other people have to say about me.Besides re-candling my flame for modeling, taking the break I mentioned earlier, was what helped me to step up my game. I created myself a strong alter ego, which has helped me to throw myself more into what I do and let go of my insecurities. I gained experience on working 2 years as a makeup artist/ hairstylist and now I’m fully able to provide my own hair and makeup for shoots. I also combined my love of sewing and doing different kinds of crafts with modeling, which helped me bring a whole new aspect to it.Do you have any tips for new models that find you inspiring?Find your own thing and do what feels best for you. Read, listen to some music, watch music videos, photography, paintings and movies, and just all and all keep your eyes open for inspiration.Don’t try to compete with the other models, because that’s just a plain waste of time; there will be younger and more beautiful models than you are. Being good at your own thing and creating an interesting and versatile portfolio is a better way to stand out.Stay away from the drama and don’t act like a diva. This is a business where no-one is irreplaceable, and bad reputation sure spreads quickly. What’s one fact your fans don’t know about you? While my alter ego may seem extroverted and confident, in my “normal life” I’m actually quite introverted and don’t like being the center of attention.Find more from Eisheth Antagony on Facebook, ask her a question on Ask.FM and don’t forget to check out her modelling agency Finnish Alternative Models (FAM).
