Woman Learns She Is A Child Of Rape and Incest, Here’s How She Handled It

At the age of thirty, Kristi Hofferber not only met her birth mom, but also discovered that she was the product of rape and incest. For any adopted child, finding out who their biological parents are, can be one of the most overwhelming things that they will ever encounter in their lifetime.  For Kristi, the shock of finding out who her biological parents were was nothing short of shocking.Kristi was given up for adoption three days after her birth.  Here adoptive parents loved her unconditionally, provided exceptional care, and spoke openly with her about being adopted.  While she loved her adoptive parents dearly, she always felt there was something missing. Kristi struggled through her earlier years of life, with both emotional and social difficulties, especially when it came to school and friends.  She preferred to spend her time alone, eventually facing depression and anxiety.  She felt that all of the pain she was feeling, was a result of being unable to handle and process the fact that she was adopted. In her thirtieth year, Kristi finally felt it was time to find her biological parents.  In 2008, she asked her adopted parents for the information needed to research and locate them.  The answers she received were life-altering. Kristi already knew that her biological mother was only sixteen years old when she gave birth, but the new information that she discovered from her innocent inquisition,Not only did Kristi learn that her mother became pregnant as a result of a sexual assault, but also her biological mother’s pregnancy was the result of rape by the teenager’s father.  This means that Kristi’s biological dad is both her father and grandfather. After letting this shocking news set in, Kristi decided that she still wanted to go through with reaching out to her biological mother.  In a matter of two days after her decision, Kristi located her mom through the magic of the Internet.  Three days after that discovery, Kristi hit the road to meet her. Following a five hour road trip, Kristi had a touching reunion with her birth mom.  Her mother soon explained to her the truly horrible story of how she had been constantly sexually abused and raped by her own father.  Kristi’s birth mom had been impregnated by her father a total of six times, throughout her teen years.  Kristi, however, was the only survivor; her other potential siblings had all been aborted or forced into a miscarriage through violent physical abuse. How does one handle such a shocking discovery about, not only her past, but about who she is, biologically?Despite the sadness that only a story like this could provoke, Kristi decided to stay positive.  She turned to her faith in God, and is grateful that her life was not aborted in utero.  She believes that she is the product of God, not incest.
